Met with Congressman Stearns' assistant on April 6, 2009 in Ocala, FL and discussed foreclosure assistance
Foreclosures: If you are in need of financial assistance or advice to save your home in any state, please contact your congressional representative in your state. If you reside in the State of Florida, please note that you may qualify for free assistance under the economic stimulus plan. First Call for Help provides first time mortgage assistance up to $5,000 if past due on payments. With stimulus money they will be able to provide on-going assistance to qualified applicants up to a year. You may contact them at (352)732-4444. Also, please note that Hope for Homeowners also provides financial assistance if you are facing foreclosure, so call to see if you qualify for financial assistance through their program at 1-800-225-5342. If you have a mortgage with Bank of America or Countrywide, Bank of America is currently considering mortgages that are upside down for mortgage reduction. Contact your bank to see if you qualify for this program. Finally, pursuant to a recent Supreme Court Order all new foreclosure actions beginning in June of 2010 will be sent to mediation at the mortgage companies' expense. If you wish to keep your home, mediation will provide you with the best opportunity to do this. If you would like your case to be considered for mediation, please request it when you file your Answer at the beginning of the lawsuit.
Additional direct assistance for those in need of foreclosure assistance comes from Congressman Martinez. Please contact the Orlando Regional Office by calling (407)254-2573 to speak with a member of the Casework Department. The toll free number for Florida residents is (866)630-7106.
